BATLEY SELF HELP DEPRESSION GROUP

The Batley Self Help Deression Group was formed in June 1997, under the umbrella of Depression Alliance. It began with a few members but has so developed that it is now a well established company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.
Clinical depression is a very debilitating illness, very much misunderstood and often suffered in silence and isolation from the community. It often causes loss of work, breakdown of marriages and family life, and can lead to suicide. Sufferers live with the stigma of mental illness and with discrimination, prejudice and disadvantage. We offer understanding, help and support in a safe place for those in our community who suffer from depression and its related illnesses regardless of race, sex or religion.
Working in partnership with other local community groups we help and support people with depression, stress, anxiety and other emotional and mental health issues throughout Kirklees.
Aims of the Group
1. To provide mutual self-help and support for sufferers of depression and their carers, in a safe, caring and non-judgmental environment.
2. To challenge the stigma of depression and related mental illness, and the disadvantage and discrimination related to it.
